Little Masterpieces: Klingenmuseum (Knife Museum) Solingen, Germany

For those with a penchant for knives and an appreciation for art the Deutsches Klingenmuseum is a must see when in Germany.

The museum chronicles the history of knives and swords from the Bronze age until the current times; and the variety and quality of the collection are stunning.

One of the highlights of the museum are the “little masterpieces” in ivory. The image above is a good example. There are hundreds these figural examples to be seen.

You can see a 3 minute virtual tour of the museum by clicking HERE.

Chris, thanks for the information. I’ve always been a fan of medieval and European weaponry. I’ll have to check this museum out the next time I’m in Germany. I found some interesting weaponry at the historical armor and weaponry museum in Vienna.

    Hi Gentry-
Thanks for your nice comments. I had to take a long break this summer to deal with some family issue, but I plan on being back at it in the next week or two.

If you get a chance to visit Solingen it is a great place to visit. There are several museums related to metal work and the Klingenmuseum is as good as it gets.

    Keep in touch!
