This is not a wall hanger! Down Under Knives set out to create the most devastatingly effective Bowie knife ever produced!

The Outback is designed to be a knife that will chop, cut, hack and slash under the most extreme circumstances. This is one blade that will never let you down!

The handle is skillfully crafted out of genuine ebony, leather and brass with an ultra-strong tang that will not twist or break in heavy use. The solid, bead blasted brass guard and pommel complete the distinctive look.

The Outback features a forged, dual heat treated 440C stainless blade honed to a razor sharp edge. Note the full tang construction and differential hardening of the Outback Bowie blade in the photo above.

Each Outback knife comes with a genuine heavy leather sheath patterned to resemble crocodile skin. The sheath features an integral retaining boot for the included high quality sharpening spike.

Down Under Knives is a fresh company born from over a decade of full-time experience in the knife industry. Our founders have been making and selling knives, working with metal and leather, and evaluating hundreds of designs for both business and pleasure for the better part of their lives. The company was built around a shared passion to create the ultimate Bowie - the knife we all felt should have been made ages ago, yet somehow never quite materialized so far.

The first result of our development and shared vision is The Outback.
- a design that's both fresh and possibly familiar to many knife enthusiasts. We patterned the blade and general appearance after a few shining examples where form seemed to meet function in the way we always felt it should. We hope you find it as pleasing to the eye as it is functional in the bush.

We are gearing up for full scale production, but you can already order yours from the first batch from our early bird distributors. We feel confident in predicting you will see this one carried by many others once the word gets out there, and we are already working on ideas for our next models. Watch this space for sneak previews, sketches and prototypes in the near future.

FAQ

Q: Where are your knives made?
A: We have a carefully selected production partner in Asia. The knife is almost 70% handcrafted by top professional bladesmiths.

Q: The colors and general appearance of the handles seem to vary. Why is this?
A: The layered construction of the Outback's handles requires them to be built almost entirely by hand. The leather and wood used in their construction also has some natural variation, so every knife is almost guaranteed to be unique.

Q: I have heard that 440C steel cannot be forged, yet the specifications say the Outback has a forged 440C blade. What's up with that?
A: There is no practical or theoretical reason why 440C could not be forged and tempered. This myth is quite simply not true.

Q: Is Down Under Knives planning to produce any other designs?
A: Yes, we are going to extend our product range with some quite interesting new models in the near future. Look to these pages for the latest information.

Q: The Outback is a pretty heavy knife, but not nearly as blade heavy as one would expect. Why is that?
A: The knife is designed to balance well for practical use. The weight of the blade is very effectively offset by the heavy tang and solid brass pommel and guard.
