Laguiole Knives
Laguiole knives are one of our favorite styles at World Knives. We carry laguiole knives from Fontenille-Pataud, Laguiole Artisan, Laguiole R. David, Forge de Laguiole and more.
We carry Thiers style knives from Coutellerie Chambriard. We also carry other French knives from Nontron, Therias le Econome and Calibre 12
To see our unique selection of hunting, skinning, pocket, culinary and specialty knives please use the drop down menu to the left and choose "Lagioule"
We love fine French cutlery and we are proud to offer a full selection of laguiole cutlery at our premier web site. These knives are fine, handmade collector quality blades from the heart of France.
Here is some information about Laguiole Knives:
There are a number of companies that produce top quality knives with this namesake. But be careful because the name "Laguiole" was never patented and many companies use the term without making knives that are up to the standard of the real thing. There are even several knife comapanies outside of France using the name! (In fact we have seen the name "Laguiole" on knives from Taiwan, Pakistan and China!)
It is important to exercise caution when purchasing one of these knives. Fortunately, there are some guidelines that will help you to make a good choice.
There are several key points to an authentic Laguiole that should be present in order to be authentic.
First, make sure the Laguiole knife is made in France! There are numerous brands of lower quality items that are made in other countries, as I mentioned, that are not authentic.
Look for the thickness and solidity of all metal components including solid (not hollow) bolsters. Make sure the manufacturer is using the best possible steel for the blade. We prefer Sabndvik 12c27 Swedish steel, although amny fine knives are now using 440 stainless.
Some producers will also use damascus, a beautifully textured blade material made from numerous layers of steel. This is a very expensive blade material and very desirable.
The logo of the manufacturer will be engraved on the blade of traditional Laguiole folding blade and straight-bladed table crafts.
The majority of knives will also have a version of the famous "bee" or "fly" that adorns the top of the blade spring on the back of the knife.
The Shepherd's Cross, a legend in itself, should appear on the handle of the knife. The Cross is composed of six small brass rivets inserted into the handle and laid out in the shape of a cross.
The country of origin must be engraved or stamped on the blade (which should, of course, be France).
Request a complete guarantee allowing you to exchange the product or obtain a full refund. Do business with people that are able and available to answer all of your questions.
We represent a growing number of Laguiole knives. We guarantee that our Forge de Laguiole, R. David and Fontenille-Pataud knives are all handmade and of high quality.
We are glad to hear from you about your unique knives. Laguiole knives are a good example of a high quality imported knife. Laguiole is one of the the finest knives France has to offer. They are like no others and will always have a special place on our web site. We love Laguiole knives!
