4/29/08 - Today we posted our new models of Lion Steel knives from Italy. Take a look at these high quality knives and see if there something you can't live without.

We have also introduced some new damascus knives from Szco that are a great deal!

Also, we will be introducing some German made J.A. Henckels culinary knives in the next week. These are some really fine quality knives and we are glad to be adding them to our inventory.

4/16/8 - Some good news for Herbertz fans. As you may know we had an extensive line of Herbertz knives for many years. Last year they suddenly suspended export to the USA. When I was in Nuremberg last month I was able to meet with the folks there and work out a deal that was finalized this week. The good news is that we will soon be bringing in a unique selection of Herbertz knives and some other brands that they represent that cannot be attained in the USA!

This past weekend the World Knives staff attended the Oregon Knife Collectors Association Show in Eugene Oregon. This is now the largest knife only show in the United States and it was fantastic. I was able to do a load of interviews with a variety of company owners, custom knife makers, attendees and our "Fearless Leader". I will be offering a short video of the show in the next month or so and some related mini-vids of special interest.

4/11/8 - Here is an easier way to my to the videos on www.youtube.com. Just click the link below.

YOUTUBE VIDEOS

4/7/8 - We posted two new documentary shorts on www.youtube.com for your viewing pleasure. One is about the making of the Mercator K55K cat knife and the other is a short history of the The Linder Company. To see all the video shorts login to www.youtube.com and put in the key word "worldknives".

Later this month we will have several new models of Lion Steel knives that have previously sold out.

We will be selling a new line of knives from Finland called Enzo Knives. They are simple elegant designs and they put the majority of the money into fine steel and not fancy details. These will come as complete knives and also as kits.

Hattori knives are getting harder and harder to acquire. We have a few models we just got in and they will be posted in the next few days.

2/28/8 - We posted our first documentary clip on U-tube today relating to the Solingen project. Login to www.youtube.com and do a search on the word "klingenmuseum". If you like it please pass it onto your friends!

2/18/8 - Today we have changed our shipping options to include First Class International and Global Priority International for our international customers.

We have also added several countries to the country list. We hope to make it easier for our feinds from overseas to enjoy our products.

2/13/8 - We have been adding a great deal of models to the bargain basement area of the website. With the economy the way it is we decided to offer a larger selection of knives that are $19.95 or less. Many of these knives are closeout items and are an excellent value.

The first five documentayr shorts about the history and manufacture related to the knife industry in Solingen, Germany have been completed. We have a few minor technical issues to overcome, but we expect to have them up on the website by March first.

9/12/7 - The CK Kubotans have been posted. You can find them in the "manufacturer" drop down list under - that's right - CK Kubotan.

9/6/7 - Today the CHAMBRIARD order came in. Also, HATTORI fans take note. We confirmed an order today that will be here next week. It has a number of models that many of you have been waiting for including: 983B dagger, TV-1 Vietnam SOG, Hattori Fighter FT-100C and FT-100E, Large Bowie 160-2, Special damascus KD-30-3718 and more HA6-4L.

In addition we are getting a few pieces of the Hattori damascus culinary knives in the Western Deba style. They are in the same line as the Japanese style, but the blade is much heavier and the knives are made for tougher purposes like whole fish, whole chicken ect (unlike the thinner blades designed for vegetables and soft meat without bones). They are still not meant for frozen food though.

For any of the Hattori please contact us as soon as possible as the Hattori knives are very hard to get and equally as hard to keep in stock.

9/3/7 - This past week we got in the Linder, Robert Klaas and Joker orders. We will send any back orders made with these comapnies out by Tuesday (as today is Labor day and the Post Office is closed).

We should get the Bora knife order in within about a week and there will be some new models from them.

Next week we will be offering a new product hand-made right here in the
Pacific Northwest by CK Kubotan. Kubotans are an effective self-defense item
that attach to your keychain. We were so impressed by the quality of these
hand made Kubotans we decided to represent them. Find them in the "type"
drop down menu to the left of any World Knives web page under "Kubotans".

8/8/7- The long awaited Herbertz order is in! Also, we got the Andujar and should get the Maserin within a week. If you have not joined the Gold Club you will want to. The next listing will have some new Puma models at big deal discounts.

We have started the "Solingen Project" website. It will be an ongoing project and in September we will be posting audio and video clips. Much of the material is new and has never been seen before. You can visit the "Solingen Project" by choosing "Germany" from the country drop down menu to the left.

We are still working on the shipping charge for the Gold Club. Our system does not allow a specialized flat fee as we wre hoping. Our new idea is a nominal fee per knife like $1.25? I will send out a notice before the next Gold Club.

7/15/7- Today we posted three new knives from Solingen, Germany from Robert Klass. Robert Klass has been been around since 1834. They are the mother company of Kissing Cranes. I had to go all the way to Solingen, Germany to find them and get some of their fine knives. To find them go the the "manufacturers" drop down tab to the left and click on "Robert Klass - Kissing Cranes".

We will have some impressive new models from Nieto coming in the next few weeks. There will be some fine stag handle hunting knives and some unusual stylets as well.

I found a large number of old stock knives from various company's. There are some interesting grape harvesting knives and some Puma knives that will be posted soon.

If you are a member of the World Knives Gold Club (and you really should be) I will be extending the free shipping through July.

More soon!

6/2/7 - I am in Solingen until next week. The experience here has been
nothing short of mind-blowing. I have met the owners and presidents of most
of the existing knife companies here including Puma, Hubertus, Linder, Boker
and Mecator. They have all been extremely gracious and have bent over
backwards to help. I have been given full access to employees and the
factories for filming and have some great interviews with a number of owners
and designers.

At Linder for example Sigfried Rosenkaimer showed me a collection of rare
archives many of which have never been seen by Western eyes. He also has an
extrordinary collection of old Linder knives and daggers. Many of these he
could show me the original design drawings for with a corresponding book
which gave information about the materials, designer, price ect.

In addition I met with Dr. Putsch yesterday who is the curator of the
Industry Museum. The museum consists of a large main museum and then several
satelite museums around Sollingen. Dr. Putsch is the foremost authority on
Solingen history and has spearheaded the historic restotration of old drop
forges, small water driven drinding cottages and other buildings related to
the cutlery museum.

He is a great guy and has given me full access to the facilities not the
least of which is his antique photo archive. It is a room full of drawers
packed with well organized photos - perhaps 10,000 or more. He even has a
photo table set up. I am spending Monday going through the collection and
photographing images that will support the documenatary.

Dr. Putsch took me on a tour of the nexus of the Solingen knife industry. It
is an amzingly beautiful place - pastoral and serene. He showed me the last
surviving grinding mill which has been in operation since 1605. It is
undegoing some restoration now, but was mostly functional.

Like all of the grinding mills of old this one was powered by the Wupper
river which is fed by five streams coming down five steep valleys. This is
where it all started!

Later he took me to the museums warehouse where all the things not being
displayed are kept. Being a knife guy and a history buff this place was like
the Garden of Eden! Everything that the Dr. and his association have saved
from the old metalwork factories is stored here. I feel very privelaged to
have been given access to that place.

I have another week here and I dont plan on slowing down. Next week is the
Klingen Museum and Robert-Klass (kissing Cranes) and more.

I am having a great time but am looking forward to getting back as well and
writing a more in depth report.

Best regards,

Chris Hyde

...5/21/7- I'll be leaving for Germany on May 27th to work on a documentary project about the history of the cutlery industry in Solingen. I plan to add updates about the trip as the days pass. If you are interested please keep an eye on this page for updates.

5/21/7 - On May 6th The New York Times Magazine published a full color spread about picnic knives. Out of the five examples they featured two of our knives! One was the Therias Navette which is a traditional French picnic knife. The other was the Maserin shotgun shell puller (not exactly a picnic knife - but they liked it!) The article brought a lot of attention to the new website and we sold out of those models quickly. As of today we have new shipments of these knives in transit.
