Here is some further information from the Okapi company about their cutlery:

"Okapi's have been manufactured in Solingen, Germany since 1902 until 1987, after which the cutlery was manufactured in South Africa, to the same specifications and standards of quality under German Management.

Over the years the range has increased and in addition to the various folders, Butcher and Kitchen cutlery a variation of Agricultural Hand-Tools and Sugar Cane knifes have been added to the range of articles.

The pocket knives as well as hand tools are manufactured from superior quality hardened and tempered Carbon Steel and the handles of the Agricultural Hand Tools as well as the Sugar Canes are made of seasoned hardwood. All Okapi's and hand-tools have an excellent reputation for quality in all the countries to which that are exported.

The Folding and Butcher blades are used for everything from wood carving to skinning of animals, fishing, cracking of mussels, harvesting of vegetables as well as cutting of meat and bread.

Traditionally the Pocket and Butcher styles have been used by the lower end of the market for whom a knife is a necessity. The Okapi knives are used for everything not just in the Kitchen and this is the reason they have Carbon Steel blades rather than Stainless Steel. They achieve a better cutting edge which lasts much longer for the price.

Okapi produces a unique inlaid knife that is unlike anything you have ever seen. We have had great success selling Okapi Knives.
