...Bora Knives are a new addition to our inventory. They are excellent quality knives using 440c stainless steel for their blades.
Here is some more information from Bora about the blade steel and production techniques:
440C STEEL-
440-C, which consists of carbon atoms and other important elements, is the miraculous steel of high technology. It gives perfect results especially in the production of hunting knives.
The quality of the steel can be understood by the comparison of its mechanical properties which are tensile strength (19685 kg/cm2), yield strength (18965 kg/cm2), shear strength (%3 in 5 cm.), contraction, impact resistance (2.8 cm2gm) and hardness (in units of Rockwell). The existance and amount of Molibdenium and Vanadium give rise the material to become a first class material.
Molibdenium secures a homogenous hardness from the surface to the center of the steel. In addition to this, it makes the steel able to resist corrosion, higher tensile and compressive stresses, higher temperatures, while making the steel harder. On the other hand, Vanadium increases the tensile strength since it accelerates the formation of carbide.
The preference of the above composition by both consumers and manufacturers has made 440-C popular all over the world.
440-C composition, which is also used by Av-Kamp, is accepted as a norm by A.I.S.I (American Iron and Steel Industries). Moreover, TSEK (The Institute of Turkish Standards) determining the Turkish Standards, adopted this composition as a standard according to the studies resulted on 22.01.1992 and 25.03.1992 for hunting and survival knives, respectively.
ROCKWELL HARDNESS-
Rockwell hardness test is the most frequently used way to determine the degree of hardness of steels. It is one of the most important questions to ask whether the steel is isotopic or not, meaning a homogenous hardness. A desirable degree of hardness is 58 RHC. Rockwell hardness test is being used by those firms whose objectives are durability and perfection. Under the international consensus, this test is symbolized by the red sticker on the surface of knives.
KNIFE CONSTRUCTION-
The full tang, which is a feature produced by most exclusive knife manufacturers, is also an essential choice for us. Moreover 440-C (A.I.S.I) is the best choice in our opinion.
HANDLE MATERIAL-
The materials which are used in handles have many different properties in respect with their different uses. While durability against the external factors and compatibility to hygienic conditions are necessary stipulations, materials' aesthetic characteristics should be preserved.
The materials that have all these properties are exotic woods which are special and expensive woods. Moreover, ABS (Acrilonitryl-Butadien-Stiren) or phenolic may also be used. On the other hand, the stag, which is a very hard to find in nature, is an absolutely gratifying preference.
SPECIAL ETCHING-
You may find wonderful messages on the knives, pistols and guns that are worked in our workshop. Just like as it happened in the past, these messages are engraved on steel in a way which will not be worn away with time.
Engraving, originated from the thousand-year-old legends, is still being developed by the grandmasters of this art to make you get more pleasure.
Our workshop, proved itself also by its artistic quality in Turkey, is going to take part among the elites of the sector in world markets with its exclusive, durable, artistic products.
