...Ever since his birth in Thiers in 1967, Jean- Pierre has loved wandering through the countyside, cutting and carving wood. Out of his childhood interest in wood, nature and handicrafts came his desire to make knives.

Later on having developed an interest in hunting, he came up with the idea of crafting the "rifle-knife".

A former rugby player and coach, it was through his love of sports that he met and befriended Frederic Lamarque.

Mr. Lamarque is the manager of Eurolam, a company that sells knives and cutlery. He saw the fine quality and originality of Mr. Beals rifle knife and decided to help him promote his idea.

It took a year of cooperation, creating wooden prototypes and fine tuning the locking mechanism, until the Calibre 12 was finally produced.

Calibre 12 knives are all hand-made one at a time by Mr. Beal in Thiers, France. For the handles he uses the best examples of olive wood, walnut, rosewood, juniper, boxwood and bullhorn.

For the standard blade Mr. Beal uses Sandvik 12c27 stainless steel or XC75 carbon steel.

He also produces a very fine Damascus blade and for some special models a full Damascus blade and lock and bolsters.

Please take a look at our growing selection of Calibre 12 knives.
