...More than most knives this type of blade has a proud history as a symbol of Nepal, and weapon and tool of the Ghurkha people.

The word "Ghurkha" comes from King Prithvi Narayan Shah's army called "Gorkhali" (from Gorkha). With the help of his army he succeeded in uniting Nepal into one kingdom in the late 18th century.

In recent history the name "Ghurkha" has been associated with the long drawn battle with mercantile British India.

The British were so impressed with the Ghurkha's bravery and fighting skills that when they signed a peace treaty which included recruiting these brave men.

The Khukuri is a medium-length curved knife that a Ghurka soldier will carry at his side. It is a formidable weapon in the hands of this capable soldier.

If his gun jams or he has run out of bullets the Ghurkha soldier will raise his Khukuri and with a terrifying war cry make a final run on his enemy.

It is this dramatic scene that has sparked much of the interest and legend surrounding the Ghurkha.
